Deeptech Startup Challenge

Building diversity and inclusion in DeepTech

We all know that more needs to be done to have a vibrant and diverse workforce in  STEM. This is especially true in DeepTech when it comes to under-represented social, educational and gender groups.

  • Tech companies with all-male founding teams receive 93% of the capital invested by VC and account for 85% of deals. 5% of capital goes to mixed teams and only 2% to all-female teams.
  • Only 18% of ICT (Information and communication technology) specialists are women.
  • A person from a lower socio-economic class will have 30% fewer opportunities to enter the digital professions.
  • For their new study, “375 Startupers – Profiles, trends and startupers in their own words” Roland Berger and the French accelerator NUMA found that 81 percent of the start-up entrepreneurs who responded to the poll are male, and just 19 percent are female
  • In 2021, 88% of the total amount raised by startups is captured by 100% male teams
  • All things equal, all-male teams raise approximately €4m more than teams with at least one woman.

If you had missed out on your chance to apply for the DeepTech Challenge, we are now giving you another chance to join us!

Singapore is one of Asia’s leaders in DeepTech, with a burgeoning local ecosystem backed by a supportive government. From 2017-2022, the government has set aside S$19 billion in R&D funding, a sum secondly only to the US. Concurrently, since 2016, government-backed entities like SGInnovate have launched initiatives such as the Power X Initiative and DeepTech Nexus Strategy to cultivate technological hard skills in a 23,000-strong local talent pool. Such efforts have transformed Singapore into an international champion of innovation and research, putting it at the forefront of fields like nanotech and advanced materials.

IMMERSION TRIP MAIN ACTIVITIES

Our 4-day immersion program is designed to expose you to the Singapore Tech ecosystem and to increase your understanding about conducting business in Asia.

You will be given the opportunity to attend proprietary networking events, expert-led seminars and in-person visits at Singapore’s leading research facilities.

During our networking events, prominent FrenchTech players will speak about their experiences in the APAC region alongside Asian business leaders with years of insight in the region.

Similarly, Singapore government representatives, mentors and startup founders will present on region-specific regulations, due diligence and operational considerations.
